Leadership Starts With Discernment
For a long time, I thought leadership meant saying yes to everyone.
Yes to every opportunity. Yes to every person. Yes to every idea that sounded exciting in the moment.
What I’ve learned, especially in this season of my life, is that true leadership actually begins with discernment.
Discernment is slowing down long enough to ask God where you’re meant to build. It’s listening instead of rushing. It’s understanding that not every good opportunity is your assignment.
I’ve had seasons where I built quickly but didn’t always build wisely. And while there was growth, there was also exhaustion. I was saying yes without always checking in with my spirit first. Over time, that disconnect shows up in your energy, your confidence, and your joy.
Now, I lead very differently.
I pray for clarity. I pray for alignment. And I pray specifically for the kind of women God wants me building alongside. Women of integrity. Women who are capable. Women who are hungry, not desperate. Women who are self-starters and no-nonsense, but who also know how to have fun and care deeply about people.
Leadership is not about convincing. It’s about calling in.
Discernment has taught me that I don’t need to build with everyone. I need to build with the right people. The ones who feel steady, not chaotic. The ones who want to grow, but also want to do it with integrity and joy.
When leadership is rooted in faith, it becomes lighter. Decisions feel clearer. Boundaries feel healthier. And growth feels sustainable instead of forced.
In this season, I’m trusting that God brings the right women at the right time. My role isn’t to chase. My role is to stay obedient, consistent, and open to who He’s placing in my path.
That’s the kind of leadership I’m committed to now. And it’s changed everything about how I build.
