Prepping My Skin and Wellness Routine for the New Year

There is something I love about the quiet days between Christmas and New Year’s. Life slows down a little. The calendar opens up. The noise settles. And every year, I find myself doing a gentle reset before stepping into January. Nothing dramatic. Nothing intense. Just simple steps that help my skin, my energy, and my mindset feel clear and refreshed.

As women in our forties and fifties, our routines don’t need big overhauls. Most of us are not looking for “new year, new me.” What we’re really craving is a soft reset. A rhythm that supports us as we step into a new season of life.

These are the simple beauty and wellness practices helping me close out the year on a high note.

1. Hydrating My Skin Deeply After the Holidays

December can be drying on the skin with travel, heating systems, and holiday makeup. I’ve learned that the best thing I can do this week is focus on hydration.

  1. Gentle cleansing

  2. Hydrating serums

  3. Moisturizer morning and night

  4. Extra eye hydration

  5. A calm nighttime routine

Nothing complicated… just consistency. My skin always thanks me for it.

If you want to support your skin more deeply this season, I linked a few of the hydrating products I use and love here.

2. Returning to a Simple, Nourishing Routine

After a month filled with rich foods, travel, events, and extra sugar, I like to ease back into nourishment, not restriction. Gentle foods that feel balancing. More water. A little less rushing in the morning.

My go to breakfasts stay simple and grounding. Warm oatmeal with protein and applesauce or protein pancakes on slower mornings

These meals help my digestion, energy, and mood reset after the holiday chaos.

3. Supporting My Body With Gentle Movement

January doesn’t need to start with pressure or intensity. I love easing back into movement with things that support my body instead of shocking it.

  • Walks

  • Light lifting

  • Rebounding for lymphatic support

  • A little yoga

  • Stretching before bed

Movement helps clear my mind, settle my nervous system, and reconnect me to my body after a busy month.

4. Refreshing My Beauty Routine for the New Year

This is also the time when I like to take a quick look at my beauty routines, what worked, what didn’t, and what I want to carry into the new year.

For me, the theme is always the same. Soft, clean makeup, hydrating skincare, minimal products that make a big difference

I keep what feels good and release anything that feels heavy or unnecessary. It’s amazingly refreshing.

5. Choosing a Word or Feeling for the New Year

This is one of my favorite end-of-year rituals. I don’t set resolutions. Instead, I choose a feeling or intention I want to cultivate in the new year.

Something like:
Ease.
Strength.
Confidence.
Joy.
Clarity.

It helps guide my choices and routines without pressure. This year my word is going to be Ease. What is yours?

As we step into a brand new year, I hope you give yourself the gift of a gentle reset. Not the pressure to transform, but the support you need to feel grounded, hydrated, nourished, and confident in your skin.

The new year isn’t about changing who we are. It’s about stepping into the next chapter feeling steady, intentional, and connected to what matters most.

Wishing you the most beautiful start to the new year!

Love,

LA
