Confident Holiday Beauty Over 40: What I Wish I Knew Earlier
The holidays always feel a little magical to me. The coziness, the gatherings, the sparkle in the air. And even though life gets busy this time of year, I have learned that the way I approach beauty can make such a difference in how I feel.
If you knew me as a teenager in the 80s, you would laugh. Blue eyeshadow, heavy eyeliner, big hair, and the boldest looks I could create. Later, when I worked with Tyra Beauty, I wore more makeup again because it was part of the fun of the job. I loved trying new looks, including the smoky eye I still play with now and then.
But as I stepped into my forties and now my fifties, I realized something important. I feel my best when my beauty feels simple, clean, and true to me. Not covered up. Not complicated. Just soft, chic, and confident in a way that feels effortless.
These are the holiday beauty reminders I wish I had learned earlier, especially for women over 40 who want to look fresh and feel comfortable during the season.
1. Simplicity Makes You Look More Radiant
Makeup trends come and go, but soft makeup will always feel timeless. I used to think holiday beauty had to be bold, but now I realize a little goes a long way.
A lightweight base
A soft neutral eye
A comfortable lip
A touch of glow
This look feels modern and flattering, especially for women over 40.
2. Hydration Is the Real Beauty Secret
I cannot say this enough. Hydrated skin is brighter, smoother, and more youthful looking than anything makeup can create. Water is always first thing in the morning and then through out the day.

Hydration is my non negotiable holiday ritual.
3. A Quick Pre Event Ritual Makes All the Difference
This is one of my favorite holiday self care moments. Right before going out, I take two minutes for myself. A few upward strokes with my sculpting wand, a little brightening serum and Lip treatment
It wakes up my skin, calms my energy, and makes me feel polished without any rush.
4. When I Want a Little Drama, I Keep It Soft
While I love a clean look most days, I still enjoy a smoky eye now and then. The difference today is that I keep it softer and more blended so it feels modern and flattering. Neutral tones, Cream shadows are our best friends over 50, a little smudged liner, does the trick
This gives the same “holiday drama” I loved when I was younger, without overwhelming my eyes now.
5. Confidence Looks Good on Every Woman
The biggest beauty shift for me over the years has been realizing that confidence is not found in makeup. It is found in the small ways we take care of ourselves and the comfort we feel in our own skin.
When I show up calm, rested, and at ease, that is when I feel the most beautiful.
Holiday beauty does not have to be bold or complicated. It can be simple, soft, chic, and still feel festive. I hope these reminders help you move through the season feeling comfortable, radiant, and beautifully yourself.
Love,
LA
