My Sarcoma Story: Shining a Spotlight on Rare Sarcomas for Sarcoma Awareness Month
Hello, everyone,
Sarcoma Awareness Month is upon us this July, and it feels like the perfect opportunity to share my personal journey with sarcoma, more specifically, a rare type of sarcoma. By spreading awareness about sarcoma types, symptoms, and treatments, we can collectively take one step forward in the fight against this rare disease.
Sarcoma is a complex group of cancers with numerous subtypes, making it a tricky diagnosis. Even in hospitals specializing in sarcomas, my medical team had a tough time identifying the exact type I had. Despite the unknowns, we soldiered on.
Imagine a tumor the size of a 4x6 nerf football inside you. Sounds daunting, doesn't it? Well, that was my reality. But the skilled hands of my medical team were able to successfully remove it. This momentous victory was a significant step in my sarcoma treatment journey.
Post-surgery, I was introduced to my new partner, my ostomy. It was an adjustment but served as a constant reminder of my victory against sarcoma. Sharing ostomy experiences is vital in normalizing this life-saving procedure and providing support for those going through the same journey.
Fast forward to today, and I am a proud survivor, taking life one day at a time. Each day is a chance to spread the word about sarcoma symptoms, treatments, and research advancements. We can all play a part in raising sarcoma awareness and helping those battling it feel less alone.
Sarcoma Awareness Month is more than a monthly observance; it's a call to action. I encourage everyone to educate themselves about sarcoma, contribute to research initiatives, and stand by those who are in their own fight against sarcoma. Every gesture of support can have a significant impact.
Every day, I'm reminded of my fight with sarcoma and the resilience it instilled in me. I'm here, stronger and more determined than ever, ready to make a difference in the world of sarcoma. Let's unite this Sarcoma Awareness Month to illuminate the fight against this rare disease. Together, we can make a difference.
