The One Supplement I Have Taken Every Day for Six Years

By LeeAnne Hayden September 11, 2026

This post is a companion piece to episode 152 of the Beautifully Whole podcast. You can listen to the full episode here if you would rather hear me walk through it in my voice.

Last week I walked you through what I eat in a day. This week I want to tell you about the one supplement I have taken every single day for the last six years. Not one of a rotating cast. Not one of ten I try for a while and drop. One. Consistent. For six years. As reliable in my morning as my cup of coffee. And the story of why I have not stopped, and what happened the one time I did, is the story I want to tell you today.

Before I go any further, one caveat. I am not a doctor. I am not a medical professional. Everything I am about to share is a combination of my personal experience over six years and publicly available research on the science. Please check with your own doctor before you add anything to your routine, especially if you have a medical condition or you take other medications. This is my story. Take what serves you.

What Collagen Actually Is, In Language That Sticks

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It is the scaffolding that holds you together. Your skin. Your joints. Your bones. Your tendons. Your ligaments. The best analogy I have is the scaffolding you see on the outside of buildings when they are being worked on all over Manhattan. That is the shape and the job of collagen in your body. It is the structure everything else hangs on.

Your body makes its own collagen. That is the good news. The less good news is that production starts to decline in your late twenties, keeps declining through your thirties, and then, when you hit your fifties, drops off a cliff. Twice as fast. That is when you start noticing that your skin does not bounce back the way it used to. When you get out of a chair and your knees have opinions. When you wake up in the morning and your first sound is a small involuntary noise you would not have made ten years ago. That is not just aging. That is a specific measurable protein disappearing from your body faster than your body is replacing it.

Not All Collagen Is Created Equal

Because collagen has been having a marketing moment for about a decade now, you can now buy it in a hundred forms. Powders. Peptides. Big blue tubs at the grocery store. Coffee creamers. Cookies. Gummies. Most of it is well-meaning. Some of it works, at least a little. But I want to explain something about the science that I think most people never hear, because once you understand it, the whole conversation changes.

Collagen is a huge molecule. Genuinely huge, at the microscopic scale we are working with here. Powdered collagen has to go through your entire digestive tract to be broken down into pieces small enough for your body to absorb, and even then, most of it does not make it through in a form your cells can actually use. Here is the analogy I use to make this land. Picture a chain-link fence. Now picture throwing a tennis ball at it. The tennis ball does not go through the fence. It bounces off. That is what most powdered collagen looks like when it meets the cells of your body. Some of it gets broken down small enough over time to pass through. A lot of it does not.

Liquid collagen, especially the one I use, is a different mechanism entirely. It has been broken down through a patented process into a molecule size small enough to begin absorbing the second it hits your mouth. Down the esophagus. Into your bloodstream. To the tissues that need it. Nothing sitting in your gut hoping to eventually be small enough. It is bioavailable from the first sip.

Why This Specific Liquid Collagen

I found this product six years ago through someone I trusted. She was older than me, looked incredible, felt incredible, and when I asked her what she was doing differently, she told me. And then she showed me the research. Multiple clinical trials. Published. Peer-reviewed. Not funded by the company itself. Independent university research showing measurable results on skin elasticity, joint comfort, and cartilage health. That was the thing that made me pay attention. Not a before-and-after photo. Not a testimonial. Actual data.

What separates this particular liquid collagen from everything else I have tried or looked at is a patented matrix of hydrolyzed collagen type II, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate, in a form that has been clinically shown to reduce dryness, improve elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The molecule size is small enough to be absorbed quickly, and the combination of those three ingredients in one delivery system is what makes it different from taking collagen alone.

And the delivery method matters. A tablespoon of liquid. Not a scoop of powder in a smoothie. Not a handful of capsules. One tablespoon, once a day, and your body gets to work.

How This Became a Six-Year Ritual

I take it first thing in the morning. Before coffee. Before food. Just the liquid, straight, on an empty stomach. It has become as automatic as brushing my teeth. There was no dramatic moment where I decided this was going to be a forever thing. It just kept working, and I kept taking it, and six years later here I am still doing the same thing every morning.

The results were not overnight. I want to be clear about that. This is not a product you take once and wake up looking twenty-five. Around weeks three and four, I started noticing my skin felt different. Not looked different. Felt different. More hydrated. More supple. Less of that papery quality that had started creeping in around my eyes and my hands. By month two, other people started noticing. By month three, I was sold.

The Test I Ran on Myself

About two years in, I stopped taking it. Not because I wanted to. Life got busy. I traveled. I forgot to reorder. And for about six weeks, I just did not take it. Here is what happened.

Within the first two weeks, my joints started talking to me again. My knees when I climbed stairs. My fingers in the morning. That low-grade stiffness that I had completely forgotten about because it had been gone for two years. By week four, my skin was visibly different. Drier. Less bounce. I could see it in photos. By week six, I reordered, and I have not missed a day since.

That was the moment this stopped being a supplement I was trying and became a supplement I was committed to. I did not need a study to tell me it was working after that. My own body told me what happened when I took it away.

What Came Back

When I started taking it again after that six-week break, the recovery was faster than the initial build. Within two weeks, the joint stiffness was fading. Within a month, my skin was back. It was like my body remembered what it was supposed to be doing and just needed the raw materials again.

Here is what I notice now, six years in. My skin has a firmness and a glow that I genuinely did not expect to have at fifty-five. My joints feel good. Not just okay. Good. I move without thinking about it. I get up from a chair without that involuntary sound. My hair is thicker than it was five years ago. My nails grow faster and stronger. These are not dramatic claims. These are the quiet, cumulative results of giving your body a specific protein it needs every single day for six years.

Where Collagen Fits in the Bigger Longevity Conversation

If you listened to last week’s episode about what I eat, you know that I think about health as a system. Not one magic pill. Not one perfect meal. A system of daily choices that compound over time. Collagen is one piece of that system. It works alongside the protein I eat, the strength training I do, the sleep I protect, and the other targeted supplements I take for specific reasons.

What I have learned in the last six years is that the things that actually work are rarely the things that promise overnight results. They are the boring daily habits that you do so consistently they become invisible. This collagen is one of those. It is not exciting. It is not trendy anymore. It is just a tablespoon of liquid every morning that has quietly, measurably changed how my body looks and feels at fifty-five.

The Upgrade That Made It Even Better

About a year ago, I added something to my collagen routine. Same product line, but a supercharged version that includes additional longevity-focused ingredients. Resveratrol. Vitamins. Antioxidants. All in one liquid dose alongside the collagen matrix I was already taking. I take both now. The original for the collagen foundation, and the enhanced version for the broader longevity support.

If you want to know more about the full longevity product line I use, I have written about it in detail. You can explore it here.

The Long Game

I am not interested in looking twenty-five. I am interested in feeling strong, capable, and confident at fifty-five and beyond. I want to move well. I want my skin to reflect the care I put into my health. I want to age on my own terms, with intention, not by default.

Collagen is not the whole answer. But it is one of the answers I am most sure about. Six years sure. I-stopped-and-started-again sure. And if you are on the fence about whether it is worth trying, I would say this: give it ninety days. Not ten. Not thirty. Ninety. And then decide.
